Features
The Sumvision N-Beat is a portable speaker with a built in MP3 player and FM radio. MP3s can be played using a Micro SD card or a USB pen drive either through the built in speaker or by plugging in headphones. There is only “back” and “forward” buttons for cycling through your MP3s which can make the process rather laborious if you are looking to carry dozens of MP3s with you. The radio automatically detects FM stations with surprising accuracy and allows you to cycle through them with ease with this configuration of buttons.
To me the real appeal of the speaker is the ability to plug your mobile phone, laptop, MP3 player or portable games console etc. into the 3.5mm AUX port for listening on the move. The N-Beat portable speaker is powered by a rechargeable battery that is easily charged by simply plugging the speaker into any USB port and does not interrupt listening.
Design
N-Beat speakers are a very slick pebble shape and are available in six colours (blue, purple, white, red, black and gold). The speaker cones are protected by a sturdy metal grating and you can feel they are built to last. So it can take a lot of abuse while rattling around in your bag/laptop case. My only complaint with regards to the design is that the headphone port is surrounded on two sides which prevents larger headphone jacks from being fully inserted.
Quality
Sound quality from the speaker is quite simply amazing and actually sounds better the higher you have the volume. This is not to say the quality is poor when the volume is turned down as you can still hear every sound on more delicate compositions. As I write this review I have listened to some ridiculously antisocial music at full volume for several hours and am yet to hear any kind of sound degradation from the speaker.
Verdict
In conclusion the Sumvision N-Beat is a great purchase for anyone who likes to listen to their music on the move and is a steal with a price of around £15. Whilst it is not as recommendable as a standalone MP3 player it is a fantastic companion for your existing MP3 player/smartphone and certainly offers superior quality to any laptop speakers I have heard in action.
