Unlike Brother’s toner cartridges a new DR2200 drum unit has no way to identify itself to a printer after installation. As a result a specific prompt must be given to your printer when changing the drum unit so that your printer does not continue to give the message “Replace Drum”. Entering this prompt resets an internal counter and clears the message until your printer believes the drum is reaching the end of its life. This reset can however be performed after installation if you forgot to perform it and is quick to do.
What printers does this drum reset work for?
There are two different methods of clearing a “Replace Drum” message on Brother mono laser printers that take the DR2200 drum unit. Depending upon the model of your printer select the relevant steps below.
Brother DCP-7055, DCP-7055W, DCP-7060D, DCP-7065DN, DCP-7070DW
- Press the Clear button.
- Press the UP arrow.
- Once the LCD displays “Accepted” close the front cover of the printer.
Brother MFC-7360N, MFC-7460N, MFC-7460DN, MFC-7860DW
- Press the Clear button.
- Confirm you have changed the drum by pressing 1.

The drum unit counter inside your printer will now be reset leaving you free to continue printing for an estimated 12,000 pages.
