For these cartridges we recommend injecting the following amount of black ink:
PG-545/8287B001: 8ml
PG-545XL/8286B001: 15ml
The fill holes of these cartridges are very small and you will have trouble getting a regular syringe to fit. I recommend using the tool provided with many refill kits, a 2mm drill bit or a square shafted awl to widen it.
We recommend sticking to the lower fill for the PG-545 as these cartridges have a smaller sponge and are physically restricted inside the cartridge. As such over filling them can result in ink spilling inside your printer.
Once this cartridge has been refilled your printer will retain the same ink level estimate it has previously. These cartridges have no way of knowing that they now contain fresh ink and only estimate ink levels based upon how much printing had been done previously. Eventually your printer will believe that the cartridge is completely empty and prevent you from printing until a small prompt has been given. More information on this topic can be found here.
This guide is intended purely to show where to inject the ink into these cartridges and how much we recommend using. For full refill instructions for these cartridges please click here.

Hi there – I bought this product and refilled the cartridge using the instructions above. It was the first time I refilled the cartridge as the printer was new. After I used it to print approximately 100 pages large gaps started appearing especially when printing in landscape format. I have tried using the head cleaning functions with no success. I need help asap. Thanks

Hi,
Ive refilled two 545 Canon cartridges using your instructions for a Canon MG2950 printer . I aligned by scanning a test print page. The printer has only printed about 20 sheets and then appeared to run dry ; however the cartridge still contained at least 4mls of ink ( as tested by withdrawing some using a syringe ). Any ideas as to whats going wrong ? Thanks
