HP 364XL/HP 364 Low Ink Warning

HP 364XL/HP 364 Low Ink Warning

If you have just installed a refilled, remanufactured or compatible HP 364 or HP 364XL it is likely that it uses a HP original chip to identify itself to the printer. These chips use a combination of counting pages and average page coverage to estimate the amount of ink inside the cartridge. As they have no way to check the physical ink level in a cartridge, a chip that has been used previously will almost certainly warn of having low ink or even being empty once installed. The message should look similar to the one shown below:To continue simply click OK in the bottom left of the message. As your printer will not warn you when the ink is running low we recommend keeping an eye on the quality of your prints and replacing the relevant cartridge when a colour begins to fade.

The above advice is applicable for the following machines:

does not work on HP DeskJet 3070A

It really should do. A low ink warning of this nature should be easily bypassed by clicking the OK button at the bottom of this message.

If however your printer is warning that the chip is depleted, missing or damaged this advice is not applicable. Could you please let me know the exact message you are getting so I can investigate?

Hi, i just brought a hp 7510 all-in-one printer. My original cartridges are close to running out. I'm thinking of replacing them with the compatible cartridges on this website. My current cartridges have the old chip which I can detach and place on the new cartridges. However, I was wondering whether my printer would be able to recognise the new ink levels or not? If not, is there any way to solve this? I've heard of a chip resetter but I'm not sure what that would do. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Also, if i bought an ink cartridge with the chip, would this recognise ink levels? Thank you

At present the only way to get an ink level estimate from your cartridges is to purchase HP original units. Both un-chipped and remanufactured cartridges rely upon previously used chips to operate and give the old ink level estimate as a result.

However an ink level estimate is not necessary to continue using the cartridges as after a small prompt is given they will continue printing until the ink physically runs out. in all honesty I would recommend doing the same even with HP originals to ensure you get every last drop from your cartridges.

Is there not a danger of damaging the print heads built into the printer if you allow the cartridges to run completely dry and the printer continues to print if doing a long print run?

    1. RefreshCarts

There is indeed. This is why I recommend keeping an eye out for colours fading out and replacing the cartridges when they do. Prolonged printing without ink can cause irreversible damage to the printhead.

It’s hard to come by educated people about this topic, but you seem like you know what you’re talking about! Thanks

I have the HP 3070A printer. I refilled the (original) cartridges (with new type chips), but the printer refuses to print, showing a message that I am using refilled or counterfeit cartridges. I can click pause/resume/… but can’t make prints. (running a cleaning cycle / test print works: perfect results.)
