How to Reset HP LaserJet Maintenance Messages

How to Reset HP LaserJet Maintenance Messages

If the screen on your HP LaserJet printer shows the message “PERFORM PRINTER MAINTENANCE”, “PERFORM USER MAINTENANCE”, or something similar it means your printer has done enough pages to require maintenance.  The LaserJet 4000 for example prints 200,000 pages between these messages showing. This is normally performed using a HP maintenance kit, which include a new fuser and a set of rollers. After this kit has been installed the HP LaserJet maintenance message will not disappear until you the maintenance count has been cleared.

In a lot of cases the counter can be reset without installing a new kit but you may experience problems in the operation of the printer or inconsistencies in the quality of the prints. As such we would only recommend not changing the necessary parts if the cost of a kit outweighs the value of purchasing a new printer.

Please find below the action to be taken to reset the maintenance message on a variety of HP Laserjet printers…
