Epson Stylus SX130: Printer Basics

Epson Stylus SX130: Printer Basics

In this post we will show you how to perform some basic maintenance on the Epson Stylus SX130. These videos and written instructions are essential steps in troubleshooting nearly any print quality issue.

How do I do a test page on an Epson Stylus SX130?

Nozzle Check Patterns or test pages on Epson Stylus printers are an excellent way to evaluate your printers ability to print in black, cyan, magenta and yellow. they are incredibly useful for troubleshooting nearly every kind of print quality issue ranging from blank pages to striped prints.

The Epson 'Stop' button.

Stop/Reset/Resume Button

With the printer on, please take the following steps:

  1. Press the POWER button and wait for the LED underneath to stop flashing.
  2. Press and hold the POWER and RESUME buttons down at the same time for no more than a second, and then release.

Once your printer has produced the page you should see a gate-like pattern demonstrating your printers ability to print. Using this pattern it should be evident which colours are causing the print quality issues. We would recommend performing some cleaning cycles to attempt to resolve them.

How do I do a Printhead Cleaning Cycle on a Epson Stylus SX130?

Cleaning cycles on inkjet printers force fresh ink into the printhead in an attempt to flush out any dried or congealed ink that is affecting the quality of your prints. Like the process described above this can be done directly from the printer with a few button presses.

With the printer on, simply hold down the printers STOP/RESET/RESUME button for 3 seconds and then release. Your printer with then take a couple of minutes to clean the printhead before falling silent again. With this done I would recommend printing another nozzle check and looking for improvement. if you are not happy with the results then simply repeat the process a couple of times.

Notice

We recommend doing no more then 2-3 cleaning cycles in quick succession to avoid overheating the printhead of your Epson Stylus SX130 inkjet printer.
