Epson Stylus DX4450: Printer Basics

Epson Stylus DX4450: Printer Basics

In this post we will show you how to perform some basic maintenance on the Epson Stylus DX4450. These videos and written instructions are essential steps in troubleshooting nearly any print quality issue.

How do I clean the printhead of an Epson Stylus DX4450?

Head cleaning cycles are a quick an easy way of troubleshooting a variety of print quality  Epson Stylus DX4450. These cycles flush a small amount of ink into the printhead to help dislodge any dried ink and freshen up printing in general.

Stop

Stop

With your printer on and ready to print simply hold down the ‘Stop’ button for 3 seconds and then release. Your printer will then take a minute or so to perform the cleaning cycle, making a whole series of noises in the process.

With the printhead cleaning cycle complete I would recommend printing a nozzle check from your printer to see any improvement. If you are still not happy with the overall print quality then simply repeat this process.

Notice

We recommend doing no more then 2-3 cleaning cycles in quick succession to avoid overheating the printhead of your Epson Stylus DX4450 inkjet printer.

How to I print a test page from my Epson Stylus DX4450?

Epson refer to print quality test pages as a “Nozzle Checks” in their paperwork. These nozzle checks demonstrate your printers ability to distribute the fours colours it uses accurately onto paper.

Printing this test page can be done directly from the printer by following the steps described below:

  1. Turn the printer off using its ‘On’ button (do not turn it off from the wall socket).
  2. Press and hold the ‘Stop’ and ‘On’ buttons for 10 seconds. I would personally recommend holding down ‘Stop’ sightly before ‘On’.
  3. Release both buttons at the same time.

The LED next to the ‘On’ button will now be flashing and your printer will perform a self test (to ensure it is capable of printing mechanically) and then print the nozzle check. You will now see pattern on the page that looks similar to a gate that uses black, cyan, magenta and yellow ink. By examining this pattern you should be able to clearly see where the problem lies and then perform the cleaning cycles mentioned above to hopefully resolve it.

I hope that you have found the guides above useful, but if you have any other questions, please get in touch via any of our social media platforms.
