PLEASE NOTE: Although we have pictured and referenced the TS6351 in this review, all of our points also relate to the TS6350, which is the black version of this printer.
Designed primarily for home users, the Canon Pixma TS6351 has the majority of features that we have come to expect from inkjet printers. With the ability to produce two sided prints automatically, as well as scan and copy, everyday tasks are a breeze with this printer.
Like Canon’s other inkjet offerings the print quality of the TS6351 is wonderful, whether you are printing images or text, you are sure to be impressed with the results. This is largely down to the 4800 x 1200 dpi printing resolution. With the additional estimated printing speed of 10 colour images per minute, or 15 in black and white, running off essential documents is trouble free.
The 100 sheet input tray handles standard 80gsm office paper with ease, but I would recommend printing images on thicker paper from the rear paper feed. I personally had problems printing anything over 120gsm from the main tray of the TS6351. This rear feed is much more hardy however, officially taking thicker paper of upto 300gsm.
Compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems, plus able to connect by USB, wireless and Airprint, the TS6351 should slip easily into your current setup.
The Pixma TS6351 uses Canons PGI-580 & CLI-581 series of individual colour ink cartridges, which are available in sizes from standard to XXL. This flexibility means users that print occasionally, to those that print everyday, should find a suitable genuine cartridge for their needs. As the PGI-580 & CLI-581 range are also individual colour cartridges, you only need to change the pigment black, black, cyan, magenta or yellow ink cartridge that has run out, reducing waste.
If however you are looking to run the Canon Pixma TS6351 with compatible or remanufactured cartridges, these are readily available now in the XXL capacity at a great price. Whilst at the time of writing, we have them available from £4.97 per cartridge, over time I would anticipate this falling substantially and make the printer even cheaper to run.
Included in the box, along with the Canon PIXMA TS6351, comes a set of starter cartridges, a power cord, a set-up CD-ROM and manuals. Rather predictably, no USB cable comes in the box, but the printer itself requires a simple USB A-B connection, if you are physically connecting it to a PC or laptop. If you have purchased a printer in the last 10+ years, you will almost certainly have one to hand.
To setup my Canon PIXMA TS6351, I simply followed the on screen prompts and within a few minutes the printer was ready to go. A double sided alignment page is automatically produced by the printer, and it even opened up the paper tray for me. When this was done, I just popped in a USB cable and was ready to go.
If however you are looking to use the printer wirelessly, you can do so from the printers operation panel, or by pressing the dedicated “Wireless connect” button on the front of the machine. Both methods are pretty simple.
Ease of Use
Capable of printing to a maximum size of A4, the TS6351 can also print to a variety of smaller sizes of paper and envelope, including A5, B5 and DL. If duplex printing is needed however, you are slightly more limited with A4, A5, B5 and Letter sizes being available.
Copying and scanning from an attached computer works much like any other printer, but quick copies can be performed with the “Start button” on the printer, saving you from involving a PC at all. You can get the first copy from your printer in as little as 19 seconds and produce additional copies at an estimated 6.5 images per minute after. The 1200 x 2400 dpi resolution of the scanner produces excellent quality images and should more than suffice for regular use.
I was pretty impressed by the QR code system employed by the Canon PIXMA TS6351. At several points during general use I was offered QR codes on the screen, once scanned with my phone, help and advice was offered. Additionally, if you are concerned at nearly any function or process being performed, you can press the dedicated “QR button” of the TS6351 and be taken to the relevant section of the manual for assistance.
Should you require more advanced features, like document feeders or use your printer more heavily, you may want to look for a more substantial printer. If however, you are looking for an everyday home or small office printer, we would thoroughly recommend the Canon Pixma TS6351. It is reasonably priced, the prints look great and is capable of tackling most basic tasks. Great care seems to have been taken to make this inkjet printer easy to use, and I would be confident leaving my less technologically confident friends and family with it.
