HP LaserJet Error 51 – Beam Detect Error

If you are receiving this message please take the following steps:
- With a HP LaserJet II and III look for a tab on the bottom of the toner cartridge facing you as you open the printer. If this tab is has snapped off or worn then it won’t open the laser shutter. Simply insert another toner that has the tab intact.
- On other printers the laser scanner assembly may need replacing. Contact HP technical support if the machine is in warranty or a technician if the warranty has expired.
