This cartridge is a standard capacity unit supplied with a variety of printers and many people don’t realise there are any alternatives when it comes to buying replacements. However this cartridge contains much less ink than the HP 901XL cartridge also available for all compatible printers. In fact if you open up the cartridge (as demonstrated in the video below) the sponge inside is very small and fills less than half of the cartridge meaning even if you decide to refill the cartridge yourself it is still restricted.

How many pages will the HP 901 Black print?
You can expect to get approximately 200 pages from this cartridge if you are printing with an average page coverage of 5%. However in reality it is likely to be less than this as 5% is a pretty light coverage for an average user.

As all machines that accept this cartridge will also take the HP 901XL that contains more ink it should always be more cost effective to shell out a little extra for the high capacity alternative. Those looking to save a little more should bear in mind these cartridges can be refilled and remanufactured HP 901XL cartridges are also available.
