How to Clear “Non‑Dell [supply type], see User’s Guide [33.xy]” Message on Dell printers.

How to Clear “Non‑Dell [supply type], see User’s Guide [33.xy]” Message on Dell printers.

If you are using remanufactured Dell toner cartridges or imaging units in your printer, you may be getting an error stating that a “Non‑Dell” unit is installed. Whilst you will almost certainly be aware of this, it is not always particularly obvious how to continue using the toner cartridge or imaging drum unit.

In most cases, continuing with your newly purchased unit is as simple as pressing a button or two. However, despite the screen telling you to refer to the user manual and giving a code, finding this code in the manual can be somewhat of a struggle.

How do I clear this message then?

When this message first came to our attention, we had a customer with a Dell B2360dn and the specific code “33.01N”. When searching through the online manual, there were no mentions of this code specifically, so we were stumped at first.

It turned out that only the “33.” part of the code refers to the Non‑Dell consumable being installed, and the final part of the code changes depending upon whether it refers to a toner cartridge or imaging unit. In this case the “01N” referred to the toner cartridge they had just changed and when we removed this part from the search, we were immediately referred to page 113 of the manual which stated the following…

“To accept any and all of these risks and to proceed with the use of non-genuine supplies or parts in your printer, press OK and X on the printer control panel simultaneously for 15 seconds to clear the message and continue
printing.”

Once 15 seconds had passed, our customer emitted an excited noise and was able to continue printing happily with their new toners. Whilst you could always try holding down this combination of buttons on your printer, the method of continuing with the installed unit may vary for your model.

As a result, we would suggest searching for either “Non‑Dell” or “33.” to find the manual section of your printer that tells you the exact prompt for your machine. If you are getting a different code, just search for the first part of the code provided on the printer.

What are the Risks Mentioned in the Instructions?

Whilst the user manual states that compatible/remanufactured consumables “may affect the performance, reliability, or life of the printer”, as long as you only buy your toners and imaging drum units from reputable sources, this should not be an issue. We only source our consumables for the B2360dn (and all other Dell printers) from companies that we trust and will always do whatever we can to help, in the rare instance that an issue is experienced.

In fact, most issues can be quickly solved by phone/email and sometimes result in a new blog post on our website. 😉

We hope this has helped, but please let us know any further questions by email or on Facebook.
