Refilling Canon CL-511 & CL-513 Colour Cartridges

Refilling Canon CL-511 & CL-513 Colour Cartridges

For these cartridges we recommend injecting the following amount of ink into each of the chambers (cyan/magenta/yellow):

CL-511/2972B001AA: 3ml (9ml Total)
CL-513/2971B001AA: 5ml (15ml Total)

The air holes of these units are very small and you may have trouble getting needle of the syringe to fit. If this is the care I would recommend using the tool provided with many refill kits or a small drill bit to widen it.

We recommend sticking to the lower fill for the CL-511 as these cartridges have a smaller sponge and are physically restricted inside the cartridge. As such over filling them can result in ink spilling inside your printer.

Once this cartridge has been refilled your printer will retain the same ink level estimate it has previously. These cartridges have no way of knowing that they now contain fresh ink and only estimate ink levels based upon how much printing had been done previously. Eventually your printer will believe that the cartridge is completely empty and prevent you from printing until a small prompt has been given. More information on this topic can be found here.

This guide is intended purely to show where to inject the ink into these cartridges and how much we recommend using. For full refill instructions for these cartridges please click here.

    Hi,

I refilled Canon cartridge CL-811 (Similar to CL-511). I slightly widened the three air holes with a thumb nail so that needle can enter. I filled all 3 colors. While Magenta and Cyan are flowing well, Yellow is not flowing. Even if I wipe the cart on paper tissue, only 2 colors are coming out (no Yellow). I tried priming the cart, cleaning and deep cleaning. Any idea how I can fix the problem?

    Thanks.

Don’t worry about the widening of the holes this is unlikely to cause any problem as far as ink flowing.

Assuming the needle was positioned as demonstrated here http://igloo.refreshcartridges.co.uk/canon-colour… I can only imagine the problem is down to the yellow ink not being pulled into the print head. In this instance I would recommend following the steps below:

-Get a piece of kitchen tissue and fold it over a few times

-Create a damp spot on the tissue by adding a few drops (of preferably warm) water

-Remove the cartridge from the printer

-Place the head of the cartridge onto the damp patch of the tissue

-Hold the cartridge in place for 30-60 seconds

-Reinstall the cartridge into the printer

-Run a cleaning cycle from the printers software to pull the ink through

-If the printer doesn’t print as expected do 2-3 more cleans

The damp tissue should help introduce water into the printhead and encourage a little ink to flow into the tissue and the cleans pull any liquid through. If not i would recommend taking the cartridge to a local refill store so they can remove the lid clean the cartridge and fill if professionally in a vacuum.

      Hope this helps.

hi in cannon 511 cartridge i put wrong ink how can i take it out or clean them thanks

    1. RefreshCarts

In short… you will struggle. The easiest method would be to print lots using the colour in question to pull the colour through. This will take some time though. Alternatively, take off the lid (I use a chisel), pull out the sponge, clean the chamber with some kitchen tissue, replace sponge (either with a new one or clean the old) and super-glue the lid back on.

Whatever you choose your prints won't instantly be perfect and it will take a while for the ink to work its way out of the cartridge. It may be simpler to just buy a new cartridge.

The only other thing I can recommend is to do a cleaning cycle/deep clean from the printer or rinter software. This will hopefully pull through the missing colour.

If however it is still absent from the prints it is likely that the yellow portion of the printhead has ceased to function. In which case I can only recommend disposing of the cartridge.

to the author i got problem on my cl511 cartridge…my yellow chamber or nozzle did not print…what i have to do…

Just make a hole in the yellow chamber, if you already have not done it, and then blow strong. That will unclog inyectors.

    Help!
Canon MP250 in test page without lite yellow.
    What can I do?

    1. RefreshCarts

Print quality issues of this nature can normally be resolved with a few cleaning/deep cleaning cycles. These can be performed using the printer or printer software. If this does not help there may be a blockage or something else that has stopped the successful refilling of the yellow portion of the cartridge. In this instance I can only recommend replacing the cartridge.
