Top 5 Free Reads for the Summer

Top 5 Free Reads for the Summer

With the glorious weather we have been having in the UK in the last couple of weeks I am sure the last thing you need is an excuse to go and lounge about in the sun. However I would like to take the opportunity today to offer our selection of the top summer books available for free online.

These books have been selected both because of their classic must-read status and the fact that they are all great easy to read, page turners. As a result you should have no problem staggering your reading to re-apply your sun lotion or treat yourself to a nap or an ice cream.

This works well for us as hopefully you will decide to print off one of these titles and take it with you to the beach/garden/park and come visit us online to purchase your replacement ink or toner cartridges when the time comes.

All of these books can be downloaded in a variety of formats by following the associated links for free from Project Gutenberg. So in no particular order lets start of our list:

Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe

The fictional autobiography of castaway who spends years on a tropical island. Details his struggle to survive on the remote island which he is forced to call home. An exploration human nature, morality and cultural relativism or maybe just a great read?

Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift

The story of a struggling businessman who takes to the seas and finds adventure at ever stop. Can be read both as a children’s story and as an adult novel with a host of social, political and religious commentary.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

In an attempt to separate the good and evil within man Dr. Henry Jekyll bring his dark side to the forefront. Explores the good and evil that exists within all of us and the connection between the two.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

Popular with adults as well as children Alive in Wonderland remains popular today. Many different interpretations are possible relating to people known to the author in the real world and the use of narcotics.

The Time Machine by H. G. Wells

The classic science fiction novel about a time travelling scientist who visits earth’s distant future where humanity seems to have evolved into two different species based upon their class. Reflects author’s socialist views.

Whether you decide to print these books off or download them for Kindle etc we hope you will enjoy them. If you have any other personal favourites or suggestions please let us know in the comments below.
