The DrayTek VigorAP 918R is a dual-band 802.11ac Wave 2 wireless access point specifically designed for continuous outdoor operation. It is an ideal solution for providing reliable wireless access in various environments, including restaurants, gardens, marinas, and educational premises.
As part of a DrayTek Mesh Wireless solution, the VigorAP 918R works to eliminate Wi-Fi dead zones, stuttering videos, and slow download speeds. A single access point acts as the controller, allowing up to eight units to form an easy-to-manage wireless mesh network without the need for expensive cabling.
The device is fully IP67 compliant, featuring a ruggedised metal case built to withstand dust, water, and extreme temperatures ranging from well below freezing up to 70 degrees Centigrade. It supports IEEE 802.3af/at Power over Ethernet, which facilitates installation in locations where power is difficult to source.
The VigorAP 918RPD variant adds a secondary LAN port with PoE output, making it possible to connect a camera or daisy-chain an additional access point. The 918RPD model also includes a switchable high-gain directional antenna, allowing for point-to-point wireless links over distances of up to 3 kilometres.
Wireless performance is enhanced through MU-MIMO technology, which boosts capacity by allowing multiple clients to be served simultaneously. The access point also includes several optimisation features such as Airtime Fairness, Band Steering, and AP Assisted Mobility to ensure the best possible experience for all connected clients.
For added reliability, the unit contains integrated temperature and humidity sensors, which can send alerts via email or syslog if levels exceed specified ranges. Security is robust, offering WPA2 encryption, RADIUS authentication, and 802.1q VLAN support to isolate traffic, such as providing a separate guest Wi-Fi network.
