The C540XL/C541XL replaces both the Canon PG-540/CL-541 standard capacity and PG-540XL/CL-541XL high capacity Canon ink cartridge. The PG540XL is filled with 21ml black and the CL541XL 15ml colour of high quality compatible ink which is guaranteed to offer exceptional quality prints. XL versus standard Does an XL cartridge fit in the same space as the standard ink cartridge, please?1: Accepted AnswerYes, the PG-540XL and CL-541XL cartridges fit in exactly the same space as the standard PG-540 and CL-541 cartridges. The difference is the sponge inside the cartridge, which holds more ink and gives the XL versions a higher page yield.

Black Cartridge Is the PG540XL the same as PG540L ?1: Accepted AnswerThank you for the question, Canon actually discontinued the PG540XL and replaced them with the slightly lower capacity PG540L cartridges - the L and XL refer to the fill level of the cartridge rather than the physical size of the cartridge, so we always sell cartridges which can hold the maximum amount of ink and as such we list these as XL.

Change one cartridge only? I have been told I must always change both cartridges black colour at the same time. Have never understood why. Using these cartridges will not affect your warranty.

So far I am very pleased with the product. The ink level on the printer registers as 'full' . A good start. The previous well-known supplier sold me empty cartridges and took 8 days to deliver them.!
