A Tile-laying Challenge
Carcassonne is a clever tile-laying game based on the southern French city of Carcassonne, famous for its unique Roman and Medieval fortifications. The players develop the area around Carcassonne and deploy their followers on the roads, in the cities, in the cloisters, and in the fields while creating a perfect city landscape. With each tile placed, strategies will be tested and the skill of the players will determine who stands victorious.

Send your Followers into the City
Players deploy their limited followers to best control the landscape and, as the area expands with roads, fields, cities and cloisters, score as many points as possible. Using followers as thieves, farmers, knights and monks, the wise player will plan his moves carefully and deploy followers when and where he can earn the most points.

Simple yet Strategic
A simple, clever tile laying game that brings new challenges with every turn, Carcassonne can be played and enjoyed by the whole family, as well as within a gaming group or with new players. Carcassonne is easy to learn and creates enough tension to keep all players involved and waiting for the next tile to appear

At the start of each turn, players draw and place a tile on the board with a piece of southern French landscape on it. The tile might feature a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or some combination thereof and it must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, in such a way that all connects correctly - cities are connected to cities, roads to roads, etc. Having placed a tile, the player can then decide to place one of his meeple followers (Wooden people tokens) on one of the areas on it: on the city as a knight, on the road as a robber, on a cloister as a monk or on the grass as a farmer. When that area is complete, that follower scores points is returned to the owner`s hand.

This edition also includes 2 free expansions - The River which consists of 12 tiles that are laid at the start of the game and can dramatically change tile placement for the rest of the game, and it also comes with the new Mini-expansion The Abbot. Since its release in 2001, Carcassonne???s popularity has led to the creation of several expansions which allow for the exploration of new aspects of the game such as the addition of trading or different building tiles.
