As time goes on I am becoming more environmentally conscious and have taken steps to make my lifestyle greener. I now walk to work, check every piece of packaging to see what bits can be recycled and shower only when the neighbours start to complain of the smell.
One thing that I am very conscious of because of my line of work is how damaging printing can be to the environment. Over half of the world’s forests have been cleared and 40% of this wood has been used to make paper. With this in mind I have tried to cut the amount of printing I do down to a bare minimum but until a few days ago had no way to make my consumption of printer paper sustainable.
Thankfully I have come across Printaforest.com and its fantastic free download that has enabled me to print guilt free. Now that I am using Printaforest I know that for every 100 pages I print another tree will be planted and I can rest easy knowing that for every tree I use 75 trees will be planted in its place.
Printaforest sets itself as your default printer and each time you come to print it will pop up asking which printer you would like to use. The whole process only takes two extra clicks and once you click “Print a Forest” the application disappears leaving you to carry on with your day.
All in all the process is very unobtrusive and the only real down side is that all of your prints have a very small advert at the bottom of the page. If you have any doubts or want to see the application in action I have made a short video below that shows printing every step of the way.
